Umbrella Scheme Pre-Matric Scholarship for ST Students, Meghalaya

The Umbrella Scheme Pre-Matriculation Scholarship for ST Students (Class 9, 10) in Meghalaya is a program by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India. Under this program, ST students receive scholarships for classes 9 and 10. The objective is to reduce the dropout rate from primary to secondary education. Deserving students will obtain a scholarship of Rs. 5,250 per year.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for this Umbrella Scheme scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Nationality: Nationality: Indian.
  • Residence: Resident of Meghalaya.
  • Community: ST (Scheduled Tribe).
  • Educational Background: 9th or 10th standard from a government-recognized school or a school affiliated to the Central/State Board of Education.
  • Income Limit: Annual household income not exceeding $2.5 million.

You must not receive any other Pre-Matric Scholarship fully funded by the Central Government.

Note: The rules clarify that in cases where two scholarships are offered to the same student, he/she must choose one and report to the head of the educational institution for the most authority for the time being.

Umbrella Scheme Benefits

The scholarship provides financial support based on the scholar’s status:

Additional benefits for Divyangjan students (students with disabilities):

  • Hostelers: ₹800 per month (₹9,600 annually)

Eligibility for disability allowances requires certification by a competent authority. Provisions are extended to leprosy-cured students and those with sickle cell anaemia or thalassemia.

Required Documents

Applicants must provide the following documents:

  • Passport-sized photograph
  • Aadhaar number
  • Domicile certificate
  • Caste certificate (issued by a competent authority)
  • Family income certificate
  • Disability certificate (if applicable)

Important: Self-declarations for income will not be acceptable. States or Union Territories will designate authorities to issue income certificates.

Umbrella Scheme Application Process

To apply through the National Scholarship Portal (NPS), follow these steps:

  • Visit NSP, click the “Register” button and complete the registration process.
  • If you have already registered, log in using the details provided.
  • Click on “Students option” and “Login” under the OTR heading.
  • Your One Time Registration (OTR) process is complete.
  • Once you have completed your registration, select “Scholarship Application”.
  • Select the scholarship you wish to apply for, fill out the application form, attach the required documents and submit it.

Note: Make sure all of the details provided are correct. If you submit the same details twice, they will reject the application.

Selection Criteria

Candidates will be selected based on their eligibility and compliance with the Umbrella Scheme scholarship guidelines.

Scholarship Guidelines

  • The contribution is applicable for one academic year and repeated only for the first time.
  • The tuition fee is for 10 months.
  • Good performance and attendance in all the sessions of class 9 will determine whether an extension to class 10 will be possible.
  • An income certificate is necessary only once at the time of admission.
  • This system is subject to amendment by the Government of India.
  • Students domiciled in a state other than their home state can seek scholarships from their home state.
  • Renewal is only in case of any change in Aadhaar authentication.

Special Provisions

  • Postgraduate scholarships are renewable for students in postgraduate courses, provided they fulfil the attendance and behavioural conditions.
  • Students unable to appear for examinations due to health reasons can appear for the examinations but with the permission of the authority concerned.
